Anassa Taverna Downtown reinterprets the modern Greek dining experience for Battery Park City, blending natural materials, handcrafted details, and coastal sensibilities with an elevated New York perspective. The design creates a warm, transportive environment where texture, light, and cultural storytelling define every moment of the guest journey.
At the center of the concept is the signature marble fish display, carved from veined white stone and positioned as an open, theatrical introduction to Greek seafood culture.
The main dining room is organized beneath exposed timber ceiling beams woven with grapevines and greenery—a subtle nod to Greek vineyard pergolas. This canopy adds depth and movement, creating a sense of intimacy across the large footprint. Below, continuous blue-and-white striped banquettes introduce a coastal rhythm, complemented by natural oak tables and upholstered chairs in warm neutral tones.
Along the plastered perimeter wall, hand-troweled white surfaces catch the light, creating a tactile backdrop reminiscent of Cycladic architecture. Pop-art portraits of iconic Greek figures add color, vibrancy, and personality, grounding the space in cultural identity. Curved booths with woven strap detailing soften the geometry and provide private nooks while maintaining visual openness.
