Anassa Taverna Downtown reinterprets the modern Greek dining experience for Battery Park City, blending natural materials, handcrafted details, and coastal sensibilities with an elevated New York perspective. The design creates a warm, transportive environment where texture, light, and cultural storytelling define every moment of the guest journey.
At the center of the concept is the signature marble fish display, carved from veined white stone and positioned as an open, theatrical introduction to Greek seafood culture. Surrounded by floating steel-and-wood shelving, the display is framed by amphorae, glass demijohns, citrus-filled baskets, fresh herbs, and seasonal produce. This layered composition creates an authentic Mediterranean market tableau while seamlessly connecting to the open kitchen behind it.
The bar continues this language of craftsmanship and warmth. A long polished marble counter runs parallel to a suspended shelving system filled with plants, pottery, and curated culinary objects. The bar stools—solid wood with navy leather seats and brass nailhead trim—reinforce the elevated yet approachable atmosphere. Soft candlelight, integrated LED shelf lighting, and warm glazed tile amplify the glow in this central zone.
The main dining room is organized beneath exposed timber ceiling beams woven with grapevines and greenery—a subtle nod to Greek vineyard pergolas.
